Content: 1.These Directions are stipulated by the Bureau of Standards, Metrology and Inspection (BSMI) 
for implementing the inspection of exterior tiles.

2.Scope of inspection: Exterior tiles, whether imported or domestically produced, excluding the 
following:
(1) Those that are imported or produced for the purpose of restoration or reuse of monuments, 
historic buildings, commemorative buildings, and groups of buildings, as well as for  construction 
or facilities within historic sites or cultural landscapes, in order to preserve the cultural heritage 
value and original appearance;
(2) Those with a length exceeding 605 mm on any side, or that adopt a construction method other 
than paving, such as locking, systematic steel grid fixation, reinforced steel grid fixation, etc.; or
(3) Those with a thickness of less than 3 mm, classified as large-size, thin-layer decorative materials, 
used as interior wall tiles or for counter doors.

3. Inspection Scheme: Registration of Product Certification (Module II-Type Test + Module 
VII-Factory Inspection).

4. Inspection Standards and Items: In accordance with CNS 9737 Ceramic tiles, the inspection 
covers “shape and height of back feet” and “modulus of rupture.” In addition, in accordance with 
clauses 8.1 to 8.3.1 of CNS 9737, the “Chinese labeling” will be examined.

5. Requirements for Registration of Product Certification (RPC):
(1) Principles of Type Determination:
a. Same Type: Products belonging to the same category, having the same maximum surface area 
(Appendix 1) and manufactured by the same producer.
b. Main Type: Among products of the same type, those produced using either the wet or dry forming 
process and selected as the main type.
c. Series of Type: Among products of the same type, those not selected as the main type.
(2) Sampling principles for Type Test: One piece each shall be sampled from the main type and the 
type with the largest surface area in each category within the series.
(3) Type Test Items: 
a. Main Type: Same as Clause 4.
b. Series of Type: Same as Clause 4.
The items specified in Clause 4 shall be tested for both the main type and series of type.
(4) The applicant applying for type test shall submit the following documents in triplicate, along 
with the samples, to the BSMI, the Hsinchu Branch of BSMI or a BSMI-designated testing 
laboratory for testing:
a. Type classification table (Appendix 2);
b. List of product components and materials;
c. Color photos of the product, 3x5 inches or larger (or, alternatively, the manufacturer’s color 
catalog);
d. Summary of the production processes;
e. Samples of the Chinese labels (including a test report on “water absorption” issued by a 
third-party testing laboratory);
f. Samples (ten pieces for each type, including outer packaging).
(5) The applicant for RPC certificates shall submit the type test reports, copies of the factory 
inspection reports issued by the BSMI or inspection bodies recognized by the BSMI and other 
required documents to the BSMI or its branches.
(6) Upon the grant of RPC certificates, the obligatory inspection applicant shall affix the 
Commodity Inspection Mark, consisting of the letter “R” and an identification number, to the 
smallest packaging unit of the product, under their own responsibility.
(7) If there are changes to the product scope listed on the RPC certificate, the applicant shall apply 
to the BSMI or its competent branch for a replacement certificate by submitting a new type test 
report from the original issuing laboratory.

6. The type test report may be replaced by a test report issued under the CNS Mark Certification 
System, provided that the report was issued within two years prior to the RPC application, and that 
the samples were drawn in accordance with the sampling principle stated in Clause 5.2. One CNS 
Mark test report may be used to replace the type test report for only one main type or one series of type.
